Student Blogging

First, do you know what a blog is?

A blog is a type of website where any person can post any sort of information that they would like to share with the world. he or she can share their knowledge, provide an opinion, or criticise a certain aspect in a respectful manner.

3 Effective Ways to use Blogger with Students

1. Blogger can be used as a student digital portfolio. The teacher can assign various writing task about the topics seen in class. Students will give personal opinions, criticize, or give any other perspective on that topic. Because blogs are archived, the teacher can see students(possessive) development throughout the class period.

2. Teachers can assign a task in which students must justify a personal opinion by using various sources such as pictures, videos, audios, etc. Students will try to persuade their classmates and teacher to think similarly by using these sources.

3. Essays can be written as a blog. Students can write their essays as a blog and they can be creative by using pictures to illustrate their ideas. Classmates can view their blogs and give each other feedback or just to express an opinion.

  1. Thank you for sharing this! I think technology has bring out many advantages from which teachers can benefit, and blogs are just one of the many tools that are at hand. Teachers should welcome these ways for teaching and take away the fear of implementing technology in their classrooms.

  2. I really like the first point. Bloggers can help teachers in that way. Students have the possibility to use technology and practice a specific topic seen in the class. Another important aspect is the development of critical thinking.

  3. The part that really caught my attention is the one that says essays can be written as a blog. I think if teachers decide to make some changes in the way they teach, and start implementing ideas like these, students will enjoy any time they have to go to classes.

  4. Persuasive essays and blogging are very different in nature. Essays are based on facts, researched and thus more authoritive;meanwhile, blogs are more casual and based on the writer's field of expertise. For this reason, I would not have students write an essay in a blog, but I do agree that blogs are useful tools for students to express their ideas and to back them up with links from different sources.
